SAL Scientific named new business of the year

SAL Scientific, which provides a comprehensive range of integrated cell biology services to the drug discovery and diagnostic industries, was named New Business of the Year at the Test Valley Business Awards. The company, which is based at the University of Southampton Science Park, beat off stiff competition from Corsair Security Solutions and another Science Park based business, Nine23, to win this prestigious award. Judges were looking for evidence of continued growth since start-up, demonstrable originality and an ability to meet and overcome challenges.

The news comes on the back of an exciting year for SAL Scientific, which has also seen the company being one of the first to be awarded funding under the Future Solent Green Growth Fund. This funding enabled the business to broaden its offering from contract research services into a range of products. As a result, they have recently launched three new animal component-free cell culture supplements that dramatically enhance cell growth in defined media, as a result of which the company’s work is attracting increasing levels of attention from the bio-pharmaceutical industry.

Steve Game, Founding Director of SAL Scientific said of their success: “We’ve worked hard on all aspects of our business and so we were thrilled that our efforts were recognised at the Test Valley Business Awards. Our business is certainly going from strength to strength and we look forward to continued growth in the year ahead.”
